Petals Early Learning

Welcome to

Petals Early Learning

“All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seeds of today.”

Vision

We believe every child has unique strengths and limitless potential. Our
vision is to nurture each child with care and intention, creating a space where they can learn, grow, explore, and thrive through meaningful
relationships, joyful play, and rich, real-life experiences.

Mission

We are committed to providing high-quality, affordable, and sustainableearly learning that inspires curiosity, supports holistic development, and gives every child a strong and positive start in life. Through engaging, play-based opportunities, we foster wonder, growth, and a lifelong love of learning.

Values

  • Childhood
We see children as capable, curious, and confident learners. In our care, they are given time, space, and trust to play, explore, and make sense of the world. We provide environments that spark imagination, encourage questions, and support children in expressing their ideas and connecting deeply with people and places around them.

  • Caring
Every child is known, valued, and treated with kindness and empathy. We nurture their emotional well-being, celebrate their efforts, and support them to grow with confidence and resilience.

  • Community
We build strong, respectful relationships with families and work together to create a sense of belonging. We value shared stories, collaboration, and active participation in both our local and wider communities.
  • Inclusion
We welcome diversity in all its forms. Our centre is a place where every family, culture, language, and identity is respected and celebrated. We stand for fairness, equity, and the dignity of every individual.
  • Connection
We believe strong relationships are at the heart of learning. Our educators form genuine bonds with children, families, and the natural world. Through these connections, we foster trust, respect, and a deep sense of belonging.
  • Purpose
Petals Early Learning is a locally owned and operated centre, dedicated to creating a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for children, families, and educators alike. We continually reflect on our practice to grow and improve.

We support children to become confident learners and communicators by:
• Providing a nurturing and high-quality care environment,
• Offering play-based learning experiences that make the most of natural materials and the outdoors.

Philosophy

Our centre philosophy reflects our values and beliefs.
At Petals Early Learning we endeavour to create an educational, stimulating and nurturing environment where children feel safe and secure. We believe all children should be treated equally and with respect.
With a holistic approach to learning, our programs are designed to provide an abundance of opportunities to allow children to explore, discover and learn whilst supporting individual interests and abilities.
Our aim is to assist in raising resilient children, we do this by building meaningful relationships with the children, their families and the community. We strive to capture the child’s journey and we share this with the families. This builds the foundation and history of the centre and contributes to the development of the child. We continuously reflect and learn through this process.

The Early Years Learning Framework

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) captures a simple but powerful vision for childhood: Being, Belonging and Becoming.

It guides how we support your child’s learning through play, relationships, and everyday experiences. Developed in collaboration with families, educators, and children, the framework helps us create meaningful, responsive programs that grow from each child’s ideas, interests, strengths, and unique way of learning.

As educators, we use the EYLF to thoughtfully shape play-based experiences and enrich both indoor and outdoor environments — so every day is filled with opportunities to explore, wonder, and grow.

Being
Belonging
Becoming

Childhood is not just preparation for the future — it’s a precious time in its own right.

Being is about the here and now. It’s making space for children to be themselves — to play freely, build relationships, enjoy simple moments, and navigate the joys and challenges of daily life.

Children need time to just be — to laugh, imagine, try, stumble, and try again. This is how they begin to know who they are.

We all need to know where we fit and who we matter to.

Belonging starts with family, culture, and community. It grows through relationships — with people, places, and traditions that give children a sense of identity and connection.

When children feel they belong, they feel safe, valued, and ready to learn. This sense of belonging shapes not only who they are today, but who they may become tomorrow.

From the moment they’re born, children are constantly growing — in mind, body, and spirit.

Becoming reflects the profound changes of early childhood. Through every experience, interaction, and relationship, children develop new skills, deepen their understanding, and build their identity.

Learning isn’t a straight path — it’s a journey shaped by curiosity, care, and connection. The early years lay the foundation for a lifetime of growth.

How We Plan for Your Child

We believe every child is unique — and our curriculum grows from who your child is, what they love, and how they learn.

To plan meaningfully, we consider:

  • Your child’s current interests — what captures their attention and sparks their curiosity
  • Where they are in their development — their emerging skills and growing independence
  • How we can extend their thinking, language, and understanding in gentle, engaging ways
  • Your hopes and insights as a parent — including experiences and traditions from home
  • Your family’s cultural and spiritual values
  • Any additional support your child may need to thrive

Putting the Plan Into Action

Our planning begins with careful observation — watching how your child plays, listens, explores, and connects. We listen to their words, their questions, and even their silences.

From there, we create a program that balances individual goals with group experiences — one that nurtures each child while building a strong, caring community.

Each room displays a daily program that shows the week’s activities and how they connect to the EYLF. These plans are flexible, responsive, and always open to your input.

After each experience, we reflect:

  • Did your child engage?
  • What did they show us?
  • Did they reach a goal — or surprise us with something new?
  • How can we build on this tomorrow?

This cycle of observe, plan, act, and reflect ensures our curriculum stays alive, meaningful, and deeply connected to your child.

All of our teaching and play is grounded in the Early Years Learning Framework — because we believe every child deserves a childhood that is rich in wonder, respect, and belonging.

Nursery Program (0–2 years)
For infants, daily routines are more than just care — they’re opportunities for learning and connection. Our educators build trusting, loving relationships through gentle touch, soft conversation, singing, and responsive interaction. Babies learn best through sensory experiences and play, so we offer activities like water play, sand play, building with blocks, imaginative exploration, music, and simple games. Every moment is a chance to grow, discover, and feel safe.

Toddler Program (2–3 years)
Toddlers are eager explorers, discovering themselves, their friendships, and the world around them. Our play-based program encourages curiosity and independence through hands-on activities like painting, playdough, sand and water play, block building, puzzles, riding toys, and creative collage using natural textures.
Each child has a daily diary that records meals, sleep times, nappy changes, and special moments. This goes home every evening, keeping families informed and creating a meaningful link between home and centre.

3-Year-Old Kindergarten
At this age, children begin to form a sense of who they are — how they see themselves as learners and individuals. We nurture their growing self-confidence by encouraging curiosity, questions, and problem-solving. Is it okay to try? To wonder? To make mistakes? We say yes.
Our educators value each child’s unique personality, responding with care to their feelings, interests, and needs. Through patient guidance and thoughtful activities, we support emotional growth, social skills, and the joy of learning. It’s okay to have a go — that’s how children grow.

4-Year-Old Kindergarten
Our 4-year-old program helps children prepare for school with a balanced focus on social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
Each day includes rich, engaging experiences across language, writing, maths, science, technology, creative arts, music, drama, and movement. Activities are thoughtfully planned to suit individuals, small groups, and the whole class, blending structured learning with free exploration.
We also invite specialist visitors and organise excursions into the community — giving children real-world experiences that broaden their understanding and spark excitement for what’s ahead

Centre

As a family-run business, Petals Early Learning is built on the belief a place of care, connection, and belonging. We understand that leaving your child in someone else’s care is one of the most trusting decisions a parent can make. That’s why we honour that trust by keeping things personal, thoughtful, and deeply human.
Licensed for 37 children, we offer early learning for little ones from 0 to 5 years. We’ve created a space where children feel safe, valued, and at home. From the moment they walk in, they’re greeted with warmth, consistency, and gentle routines that help them feel secure. For many families, Petals becomes a second home — and we’re proud of that. Located in Ballajura, we’re just a short distance from several local primary schools. For families who need it, we offer kindergarten pickup, helping to ease the transition between school and care with ease and reliability..
At the heart of our centre is our director, who brings over 23 years of experience in early childhood education. Her leadership is not just about management — it’s about mentorship, vision, and a lifelong commitment to nurturing young lives. She oversees every aspect of our centre with care, ensuring that our values are lived each day..
Our educators are more than staff — they’re the heartbeat of our centre. They bring kindness, experience, and genuine joy to their work. They take the time to listen, to observe, and to build real relationships with children and families. It’s this personal touch that makes Petals feel like a community. We proudly serve families from all cultural backgrounds and welcome children of every ability..
At Petals, we help children grow into capable, caring people. When you join Petals Early Learning, you’re not just enrolling your child. You’re becoming part of a family — one that celebrates your child, supports your journey as a parent, and walks beside you every step of the way. Welcome to Petals.

Outdoor Facilities

Our outdoor space is designed to inspire exploration, movement, and connection with the natural world.

At the heart of the yard is a spacious, shaded sandpit made from natural sandstone. It’s a favourite spot where children dig, build, and imagine — creating castles, rivers, and whole worlds of their own. The area is fully enclosed and protected by shade sails, so little hands and minds can play safely, whatever the weather.

Soft synthetic turf covers much of the play space, providing a cushioned surface that helps keep children safe as they run, jump, and learn to balance.

We offer a wide range of equipment to support gross motor development — from climbing frames and balance beams to bikes and tunnels. These experiences help children build strength, coordination, and confidence in their growing bodies.
For our youngest learners (0–2 years), there is a separate, peaceful outdoor area tailored to their pace and needs. Here, babies and toddlers can crawl, cruise, and explore in a calm, secure environment designed just for them.
Wide, covered verandas extend the classroom outdoors, giving children extra space for creative play — drawing, building, storytelling, or messy sensory activities — all under shelter and in fresh air.
We also believe outdoor learning is about more than play — it’s about growing respect for the earth. At our centre, children take part in hands-on sustainability experiences such as:

  • Tending flower and vegetable gardens
  • Harvesting produce for meals
  • Composting food scraps
  • Recycling water
  • Birdwatching in our garden spaces
  • Children also learn to care for living things. At different times, they help feed and gently interact with small animals, building empathy, responsibility, and a sense of connection to the living world.
  • Horticulturist work alongside the children, guiding them through the seasons and nurturing a lifelong love of gardening and sustainable living.

Dancing and yoga  sessions help children tune into their bodies, breathe mindfully, and develop awareness of their own well-being. We invite expert fitness educators to lead fun, active sessions that build coordination, strength, and a joyful attitude toward movement and health.
All of these programs are included in your fees — no extras, no surprises. We believe every child should have access to enriching experiences, led by skilled and passionate specialists.

Indoor Facilities

Our indoor spaces are thoughtfully designed — not just for function, but for feeling.

Our educators take pride in creating environments where every child feels at home — where they belong, feel safe, and are free to explore. From the choice of furniture to the display of children’s artwork, every detail is considered with the child’s experience in mind.

We believe the spaces children learn in shape the way they learn. So we make sure ours are beautiful, intentional, and full of possibility.

Healthy Eating

We see food as more than fuel — it’s a way to teach, connect, and care.
We believe good food supports good learning.

Our healthy eating policy is based on the principles of the Healthy Eating Pyramid. We provide nutritious, balanced meals and snacks each day, with an emphasis on fresh, whole foods — fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy.

Our centre provides nutritious morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea, with menus planned weekly to include a balance of fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins. We accommodate dietary requirements — including cultural, religious, and medical needs — and always seek your input.
If you prefer to send food from home, that’s welcome too. Just let us know your child’s preferences and any allergies.
We encourage children to explore new foods at their own pace, with gentle support and no pressure. Mealtimes are also a chance to practice independence, social skills, and table manners — all part of growing up.

Opening Hours

We are open Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, 51 weeks a year — except on public holidays.

This allows flexibility for working families, while maintaining a consistent, nurturing environment for children.

Child Care Subsidy (CCS) Calculator

The Child Care Subsidy can make a real difference to your family’s budget. To help you estimate what you might be eligible for, we recommend using the Child Care Subsidy Calculator, an independent online tool:

Please keep in mind this is only an estimate based on the details you provide. For official information, always refer to the Department of Education.

A Gentle Start

Starting at a new early learning centre is a big step — for your child, and for you. That’s why we believe in beginning with care, not pressure.

Before your child begins, we warmly invite you and your little one to visit us. These casual visits give you both a chance to meet our educators, explore the spaces, and talk through your child’s daily routine in a relaxed way.

For many families, this is the first time their child will be cared for by someone outside their immediate circle. We understand how meaningful — and sometimes emotional — that can be. Flexibility, patience, and kindness guide everything we do during this time.

Our orientation process is designed to help your child feel safe, welcomed, and gradually part of the group. It’s also about building trust between you and us.

During each orientation session, our educators gently support your child’s transition, observing how they settle and what comforts them. At the end of the visit, we’ll share a simple orientation form with you — a short summary of your child’s experience that day, so you can see how they’re going.

Every child responds differently. Some walk in smiling; others take time. And often, parents feel more anxious than their child! That’s completely normal. We encourage you to call us during the day if you’d like to check in — we’re always happy to update you.

Bringing a favourite toy, lovey, or blanket from home can help your child feel more at ease. We welcome these small treasures as part of their journey with us.

Our educators are experienced in supporting children and families through this sensitive time. If your child is finding it hard to settle, we’ll talk with you — honestly and kindly — and may suggest ending the session early. We can then plan shorter visits, building up gently so your child feels confident and secure.

This is your child’s first step into a wider world. We’re honoured to walk beside you.

Communication & Partnerships with Families

At Petals Early learning, we don’t see families as visitors to our centre — we see you as essential partners in your child’s learning journey.

When families and educators work together with openness and respect, children thrive. That’s why we value clear, thoughtful communication — even during the busy moments of drop-off and pick-up.

To help keep everyone informed, we use a range of simple, practical ways to connect:

  • Important updates — like centre closures, illnesses, or events — are shared on our front window or noticeboard
  • Daily diaries for infants and toddlers go home each evening, so you know how your child’s day went
  • A monthly newsletter keeps you informed about what’s happening in the rooms and across the centre
  • Email updates for urgent or detailed information
  • A suggestion box in the foyer — a quiet way to share ideas or feedback
  • Program and observation forms, so you can tell us what your child loves, what they’re curious about, and how they’re growing

Your voice matters. Whether it’s a thought about the menu, a suggestion for an activity, or a concern you’d like to raise — we welcome it. These conversations help us create a program that truly reflects your child and family.

We’re also happy to provide important written information in your home language, whenever possible. Let us know how we can make communication easier for you.

Parental Involvement: We Value Your Presence

There’s no one-size-fits-all way to be involved — and that’s what makes it special.

Petals Early learning, we welcome every way you’d like to contribute. Whether it’s helping in the garden, sharing a story at circle time, cooking with the children, joining an excursion, or simply offering a skill or tradition from your culture — your presence enriches our community.

Throughout the year, we invite families to special events and gatherings. We understand that many of you are balancing work, family, and other commitments — so we aim to make participation meaningful, not demanding.

Most importantly, we want you to feel included in decisions that matter — not just about your child’s day-to-day experience, but about how our centre grows and evolves. We encourage your input on our programs, policies, and practices, because your insights help us become better.

When families and educators listen to each other, something beautiful happens: children feel seen, supported, and deeply connected — to their learning, their peers, and their world.

And that’s what we’re here for.

Fees and Enrolment

We believe in transparency when it comes to fees. A detailed fee schedule is provided at the time of enrolment, including information about the Child Care Subsidy (CCS) and any out-of-pocket costs.

Fees are due weekly in advance and can be paid via direct debit, bank transfer, or cash. We understand that life can be unpredictable — if you’re facing financial difficulty, please speak with us. We’re happy to discuss flexible arrangements in confidence.

To secure a place, a non-refundable enrolment deposit is required. This helps us plan staffing and resources to best support your child’s needs.

Please note: absences due to illness, holidays, or family commitments are still chargeable, as your child’s spot is held for them. However, we offer a limited number of casual days for families with changing schedules — just ask if this might suit your needs.

Confidentiality and Privacy

We treat all family information with the utmost care. Personal details, observations, and conversations are kept confidential and shared only with those directly involved in your child’s care — unless you give permission otherwise.

Photographs of children may be used in room displays or internal records, but we will always seek your written consent before using any image in newsletters, social media, or promotional materials.

You have the right to view your child’s learning portfolio at any time. These records are kept securely and updated regularly to reflect their growth, interests, and achievements.

Health and Wellbeing

Your child’s health and safety are our top priorities.

We follow strict hygiene practices — including regular handwashing, sanitising of toys and surfaces, and safe food handling. If your child is unwell, we kindly ask that they stay home until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication and showing clear signs of recovery.

We manage allergies and medical needs with care. If your child has an allergy, asthma, or any health condition, we’ll work with you to create a simple, individualised plan. All staff are trained in first aid, anaphylaxis, and emergency response.

Sun safety is important to us. From September to April, all children are required to wear a hat when outdoors. We provide sunscreen, but please let us know if you’d prefer to supply your own.

Nappies and wipes are included in our daily care. For toddlers transitioning to the toilet, we work closely with families to support this milestone with patience and consistency.

You’re Welcome

Starting at Petals Early Learning Centre is more than just enrolling in a childcare service — it’s joining a community built on kindness, curiosity, and connection.

We don’t expect perfection — from children, from families, or from ourselves. We expect effort, honesty, and heart.

Every child who walks through our door brings something unique. And every family brings stories, strengths, and love. We’re here to walk beside you, to listen, to learn, and to grow together.

Thank you for trusting us with your child’s early days. We don’t take that lightly.

With warmth and welcome,
The Team at Petals Early Learning

Teaching young children isn’t just a job — it’s a calling.

It’s in the quiet moments: a toddler whispering your name when they’re scared, a three-year-old proudly showing you their drawing, or a child who once clung to their parent now running in with a wave and a grin.

These are the moments that remind us why we’re here.

Petals Early learning, we believe early childhood education is about more than routines and activities — it’s about relationships. It’s about showing up with empathy, curiosity, and heart. It’s about seeing each child not just as they are, but who they’re becoming.

We’re looking for educators who feel this deeply — people who light up when a child discovers something new, who listen with patience, and who bring creativity and calm to every day. People who understand that a scraped knee needs a bandage, but also time, a hug, and someone who truly sees them.

This is a place where your voice matters. Where your ideas can shape the way we play, learn, and grow together. Where professional growth isn’t just encouraged — it’s woven into the rhythm of our days.

You won’t be left to manage a room on your own. You’ll be part of a team that supports one another, shares insights, and celebrates the small victories — because we know those are often the biggest ones.

If you believe in slowing down to listen, in creating spaces full of wonder, and in the quiet power of consistency and care, then you belong here.

This is more than childcare.
This is where childhood is honoured.
Where educators are respected.
And where every day, you get to be part of something meaningful.
